Acting Social

A Social Skills Program for 9 to 14 year olds (Social Skills Level II Program)

This program is designed for participants who have been through the Let’s Be Social! and/or Amicus Programs (Camp Amicus or Amicus Recreation) and would like to take a more advanced program to build on those skills through role-playing and other experiential activities. No referral required but acceptance will be based upon the child’s progress in previous programs to ensure the child is ready for this more advanced program. Acting Social is supervised by a Registered Psychologist and delivered by Provisional Psychologists and Social Skills Counsellors, this program will enable the participants to move beyond some of the more basic skills and encourage self growth.

  • Week 1: Introduction and Focusing Attention 
  • Week 2: Emotional Knowledge and Emotional Expression
  • Week 3: Tone of Voice and Putting Cues Together
  • Week 4: When Cues Don’t Match
  • Week 5: Review Week
  • Week 6: Point of View and Reflective/Active Listening
  • Week 7: Understanding Interactions
  • Week 8: Becoming Fluent in Conversation
  • Week 9: Celebration week

Dates:
  Saturday, September 23rd – December 9th (9 weeks, no class October 7, 14 and November 11th)
Times:  1:00 pm to 3:00 pm
Cost:  $600 (Program fees may be claimed as psychological fees and/or a medical expense on many private benefit packages. Program may qualify for FSCD funding. Bursaries may be available.)

Registration Overview: If your child has already participated in Camp Amicus or Social Skills programs through Foothills Academy, contact our Intake Administration Assistant (403.270.9400 ext.252) to register your child. There is a non refundable $100 dollar deposit for the program.
