Psychological Assessment & Intervention ServicesWhat is counselling/psychotherapy?

The purpose of counselling/psychotherapy is to help people change their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours through the collaboration between an individual and a psychologist. It provides a supportive environment to talk openly and confidentially about concerns and feelings. Psychologists use a number of different theoretical models to assist with this change. Our psychologists use a combination of cognitive-behavioral, narrative, solution-focused, and systemic theories to guide their practice.

That is, it will be identified on the receipt who provided the service, including their position with us (e.g., Registered Psychologist or Registered Provisional Psychologist). All Registered Provisional Psychologists are supervised by Dr. Karen MacMillan, who is a fully Registered Psychologist in the province of Alberta.

Please note: Any costs for such services as psycho-educational assessments, counselling, or consultation that are not reimbursed through insurance may be claimed as a medical expense upon completing your income tax.
