Girls Only! is a powerful 8-week program designed for girls between the ages of 9-12 (Juniors) & 13-16 (Teens) with LD/ADHD.

Does your daughter have symptoms or a diagnosis of LD and/or ADHD? Would she benefit from a safe place to share her challenges and concerns?  Is she looking to meet other girls who are also struggling with similar experiences?

About:

This program aims to engage girls in topics and issues pertaining to their social, emotional, behavioural, and biological development.  A particular focus of the program is to educate and enrich participants’ understanding of their diagnosis(es) while also helping them to gain greater awareness of their strengths. Participants learn strategies that they could use to manage better their day-to-day challenges (e.g., developing and maintaining friendships, conflict resolutions, and self-advocacy skills).

The weekly sessions include a 30-minute semi-structured physical activity time to provide opportunities for participants to enhance their social interactions. Ultimately, all aspects of the program are created to empower girls with LD/ADHD and increase their sense of belonging and connection.

The program also offers two parent workshops with the goal of sharing strategies taught in the Girls Only! Sessions, as well as provide further information and resources on topics that may be of interest to participating parents and guardians.

Please note that girls are not required to complete Juniors before registering for the Teen group. Topics designated to each Level are based on the developmental needs, interests and appropriateness of the respective age groups. Groups are offered subject to sufficient demand.

Intake Process:

If your child has not participated in an Amicus or social skills program through Foothills Academy before, a one-time intake process must be completed prior to registration. Please note: the intake process can sometimes take one to two weeks, as we want to ensure that we can meet the needs of all the children in our program. It is ideal to begin the intake process well before you intend to register for programs to ensure availability.

Cost:

$600 (These groups can be claimed as a psychological health service as it is clinical in nature and is being led under the supervision of a Registered Psychologist. Some families may also qualify for funding through FSCD (Family Support for Children with Disabilities and/or Bursary assistance may be available). There is a non-refundable $100 dollar deposit for the program.

Registration Overview:

After the intake process is complete, you will be sent the registration form package. If your child has already participated in Camp Amicus programs through Foothills Academy, contact our Intake Coordinator to register your child. Please note that groups running is subject to demand.

PLEASE NOTE:  Our Girls Only! Groups provide the most therapeutic benefit when the members are carefully selected in order to create a homogeneous group (based on similar age, concerns, etc.). Therefore, even though a young person may meet the criteria and be approved for the group, this does not necessarily mean a spot will be available for them in the next session.
