May 13th: An evening with Uma Vandekerkhove, Registered Psychologist
May Workshop
Anxiety is one of the most common challenges facing young people today, but it doesn’t always look the same in each person. Our May 13th workshop was an informative session designed for parents/ caregivers and youth to better understand how anxiety shows up and how to respond effectively.
In this workshop we explored:
- How anxiety shows up in kids and teens
- Avoidance, reassurance-seeking, and shutdown
- Supporting vs. enabling anxiety
- Practical regulation & coping tools to help build emotional regulation skills
We also discussed test anxiety as a relatable example, including:
- What happens in the brain and body during tests and exams
- Strategies to manage anticipatory anxiety
- Tools for before, during & after tests
