Foothills Academy’s Empowering Girls Club Donates $1,400 to Discovery House
Calgary, AB – June 2025 – Foothills Academy Society is proud to share that the Empowering Girls Club (teams 2 and 3) have raised $1,400 (in the 2024/2025 school year) in support of the Discovery House, a local organization that provides shelter, support, and trauma-informed services to families with children leavingdomestic violence.
As part of their commitment to learning and giving back, members of the Empowering Girls Club had the opportunity to tour Discovery House, meet with staff, and gain a deeper understanding of the organization’s impact. During the visit, students asked thoughtful questions and demonstrated empathy and respect while learning how Discovery House supports families on their journey to safety and recovery.
“This year’s donation reflects the compassion and leadership of our students,” said Bani Puri, Manager of Professional Development & Community Education and Empowering Girls Club organizer. “Their dedication, along with the support of staff, parents, and our wider school community, made this initiative a true success.”
Discovery House expressed heartfelt gratitude for the contribution, noting how community support like this helps create safe spaces for families to heal and rebuild. One former client shared, “By the time I left Discovery House, one fundamental thing had shifted. I knew that I would never go back. That I’d never stay in an abusive relationship again. And I haven’t.”
Foothills Academy Society is committed to fostering leadership, empathy, and social responsibility in all students. The Empowering Girls Club’s partnership with Discovery House is one of many ways students are learning to use their voices and actions to support others and make a lasting difference in the community.
