Program Overview
Outdoor Adventure Camp (OAC) invites youth in grades 7–9 to discover the wonders of the outdoors through thrilling wilderness activities and sports. Mornings focus on mastering essential wilderness skills such as tent setup, fire building, and map reading. Afternoons bring these skills to life with adventures in Calgary and the nearby mountains, including hiking, canoeing, rock climbing, and more.
With a 3:1 camper-to-staff ratio, OAC offers social skill development and classic camp camaraderie embedded seamlessly into outdoor adventures.
Outdoor Adventure Camp at a Glance
- Ages: Entering Grades 7–9
- Location: Foothills Academy Society, Calgary, and various city and mountain locations.
- Dates & Duration: 1-week sessions from Monday to Friday; 9:00 AM–4:00 PM
- Program Focus/Goal: Learn wilderness skills, outdoor sports, and social skills while making friends and having fun
- Activities: Hiking, canoeing, indoor rock climbing, wilderness skills (tent setup, fire building, bear hangs, etc), and classic camp games
- Transportation: Drop-off and pick-up at Foothills Academy. Bussing to off-site locations is provided
- Intake Criteria: Completion of the Intake Process is required for new campers. Details below
- Cost: $835- Financial assistance is available. Eligible for FSCD funding. Details below

About the Outdoor Adventure Camp Program
Outdoor Adventure Camp (OAC) is perfect for youth who love nature and crave an outdoor challenge. Each day begins at Foothills Academy with camp games and social connection activities designed to foster teamwork and friendships. Mornings focus on wilderness skills like fire building, mapping, and setting up a campsite, giving campers hands-on learning experiences to build confidence in outdoor settings.
After lunch, campers embark on exciting adventures around Calgary and the Kananaskis. They hike scenic trails to waterfalls in Bragg Creek and Canmore, canoe on the Glenmore Reservoir, and try indoor rock climbing at Bolder Climbing Community. Every activity emphasizes teamwork, leadership, and personal growth while reinforcing social skills naturally in real-world contexts.
Whether your child is an experienced adventurer or new to the outdoors, this camp provides a welcoming space to build confidence, make friends, and explore nature—all while creating lifelong memories.
Weekly Activity Breakdown
Morning:
- Camp games and social skill-focused activities
- Wilderness skill-building sessions (e.g., fire making, mapping, bear hangs)
Afternoon:
- Off-site adventures such as hiking, canoeing, and climbing
- Group bonding and team challenges in natural settings
Key Experiences:
- Explore waterfalls in Bragg Creek and Canmore
- Canoe on the Glenmore Reservoir
- Rock climb at Bolder Climbing Community
Before and After Care
Hours: 8:00 AM–9:00 AM and 4:00 PM–5:00 PM
Cost: $25/week for each offering. For example, if you sign up for both before and after care, the charge is $50 per week
Registration and Intake Process
Campers with ADHD and/ or Learning Disabilities within the accepted grade/ age range are eligible.
New Campers: Complete the Intake Process to determine eligibility. Eligible families will receive registration details.
Returning Campers: Families will receive a direct registration link. A $100 deposit secures your child’s spot.
**Once approved, you do not need to re-complete the intake process for subsequent camps or programs. This is only for first-time families.
Financial Accessibility
Camp Amicus is eligible for FSCD funding, and we can bill FSCD directly for camp fees. Families needing additional financial assistance can visit our Financial Accessibility page for support.
